Excellent opportunity to look at a Coast Guard patrol boat or rescue boat this is a 45 footer you can see the big orange collar a lot of people will think that's an inflatable collar like an inflatable dinghy or a rigid inflatable boat except these orange colors are actually dense foam they're not inflated at all they are foam the boat itself is aluminum and this is 45 631 you can see the welds, so this is an aluminum boat very sturdy very deep v4 going out in the ocean and rough weather and another curious thing to look at here is this green piece this is called a half pipe and another one in the back another half pipe and these half pipes are designed for the travel lift when you pick the boat up out of the water with a travel lift this is so that the strap will not compress the dense foam right here and the foam is a flotation foam, so those are just temporary to haul the boat out of the water and to put the boat back in the water and this boat is Marine bike we check which is made in the Pacific Northwest think Seattle and look down there are no propellers and no rudders curious where they are they never had them this is a jet boat with the jet propulsion twin-engine jet propulsion and when we say jet propulsion it actually has a reciprocating diesel engine with Pistons but instead of having a propeller and a rudder it has a jet drive that pushes water out let me come back starboard, and you can look up in there, and you can see that's where it sucks water up and that's where it blows the water out in this case the bucket is in a hover position why the bucket would be lifted and propulsion would come straight out of this area or the bucket would be put all the way down which we give you reverse thrust so if you ever fortunate enough to fly on an airplane and sit over the wings airplanes also have buckets, so you'll get to see the buckets moving forward hover neutral and reverse got a nice big swim platform it's a grab handle on it and if you're ever in trouble you need to help this is the guy that's going to come out there and get you if you have any questions about Coast Guard folks look them up online or ask captain Chris
