If you live in a climate similar to central Alabama, you will have to deal with these mosquitoes' year round. The best ways to deal with mosquitoes is simply to wear long sleeves and pants, and to stay vigilant in checking your outdoor containers for larvae. While you are taking precautions, take some time to explore your garden. Make sure you are not inadvertently stepping in any mosquito larvae, or egg cases. Mosquito larvae are usually present only in the water. While there will most likely not be any mosquitoes in your pond or pond, the garden will contain more mosquitoes that can attract them. You could also place some of your vegetable garden trays outside the garage so that the mosquito larvae will have additional food sources when available. In the garden, you could also build some type of box-type containers, such as flowerpots or hanging baskets, that you can fill with soapy water and let out. This type of container will allow the larvae to lay their eggs on the surface. These containers will also serve as natural mosquito traps. You can also place a container near your porch, in your garage, or inside a shed to reduce the number of mosquitoes inside your home. You can also use natural repellents like essential oils, oil of lemon or almond, and peppermint oil in small amounts. The majority of repellents you would want to choose are oil based, with a few natural products sprinkled into the mix. Be sure to read the directions on the packages and the labels to ensure you are using the right products. Make sure you use the right amount in your daily regimen and that the oil is not too heavy/hot. While these repellents will help keep you protected from these insects, be sure to keep everything in a clean, dry area with the windows and doors closed. Mosquito and Egg Cases If you have a garden and want to prevent the eggs from forming in your garden, you can fill a cardboard box with soil. The box will be placed near your plants for some time to allow the eggs to develop, so the box will be covered by a small area of mulched soil. You will want to rotate the soil out every so often to be sure that your insects are not able to continue their life cycle. You can also place a small box in your garden and remove the box each time the eggs hatch or the females lay their eggs. This box will act as a natural trap for the females.
