Step 1: Check for safety and ensure that the area is safe for you and the victim.

Step 2: Check for responsiveness by gently tapping the victim and asking if they are okay.

Step 3: If the victim is unresponsive, shout for help and call emergency medical services.

Step 4: Open the airway by tilting the victim's head back gently and lifting the chin.

Step 5: Check for breathing by looking, listening, and feeling for any signs of breathing.

Step 6: If the victim is not breathing or only gasping, start performing chest compressions. Place the heel of your hand on the center of the victim's chest, interlock your fingers, and compress the chest at least 2 inches deep and at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute.

Step 7: After every 30 compressions, give two rescue breaths. Tilt the victim's head back, pinch their nose shut, create a seal over their mouth, and give two breaths that make their chest rise.

Step 8: Continue performing cycles of 30 compressions and two breaths until help arrives or the victim shows signs of life.
