The Honors by Contract Program allows eligible students to work individually with faculty members on higher-level educational activities related to course objectives while enrolled in a regular course.
Learning-by-Contract (LBC) provides a way to earn Honors credit for non-Honors courses through additional reading assignments, written work, and a presentation of findings. Students may earn up to nine credits through LBC. LBCs are not permitted for the following: First-year students.
Included in the 36 credit hours of honors coursework are at least 18 hours of upper-division or graduate-level honors credit hours for an earned letter grade of “C” (2.00) or higher. Students should investigate specialized honors, upper-division tracks within their majors.

**The Barrett Honors College fee displayed is for students admitted in fall 2025 or later. The rate for continuing students is $111 per credit hour with a maximum of $999/semester.
Many instructors opt to offer their course for honors credit. These courses are advertised within the Barrett Honors College. The primary purpose of the honors enrichment contract is to give students and faculty the opportunity to interact about challenging academic issues.
AN HONORS CONTRACT SHOULD: Hone the student's critical thinking, writing and presentation skills in addition to enhancing their grasp of the subject. Inspire frequent interaction between the student and the professor. Respect the professor's time and resources.
