Who needs this application?
This is a business registration form for applicants in the State of New Jersey. Business owners have to file it with the Division of Revenue and the Department of Labor in order to run a legitimate enterprise.
What is it for?
Is serves as a registration of a new entity as well as an amended application for a registered business or an application for an additional location. With this form, the business owner can legally obtain profit as soon as he receives a registration certificate and pays state taxes.
Is it accompanied by other forms?
If the purpose of this form is the registration of a new business entity, the Public Records Filing must be also completed. Please, remember to send the Public Records Filing for a New Business Entity (pages 23 and 24 of the registration forms guide) prior to the NJ-REG.
When is this application due?
This application should be sent at least 15 days before the first sale, remitting use tax, or using NJ exemption certificate. The Division of Revenue will respond with a letter where the business entity will be granted a 12-digit registration number and therefore will be able to pay taxes required in the State of New Jersey. It’s also important to send an NJ-REG within 60 days after the Public Records Filing was sent.
How do I fill out this registration form?
This is a simple registration form. It consists of only three pages. The first page is to be filled out with general information about the business entity and its owners. The other two contain a questionnaire that helps to determine nature of business, employment activity, and financial issues.
