Math League is a math competition for elementary, middle, and high school students in the United States, Canada, and other countries. The Math League was founded in 1977 by two high school mathematics teachers, Steven R. Conrad and Daniel Flegler.
For high school, the score is the sum of the sprint and target rounds for a maximum of 200 points. Generally, the team and school scores are calculated from taking the sum of the top 4 individual scores from teams or scores respectively, dividing by four, then adding the top team score.
The hardest math class in high school is often considered to be AP Calculus BC or IB Higher Level Mathematics. These courses are renowned for their rigorous curriculum, covering advanced mathematical concepts such as calculus, trigonometry, and statistics.
Students are asked to solve 30-35 problems in 30 minutes. The last 10 problems are hard and require students to find advanced “tricks” without which the problems take too long to solve. To make an analogy from track and field, while most math contests are long-distance races, the Math League is a sprint!
The Hardest Math Problem Student Contest is an annual competition presented by The Actuarial Foundation, the Institute of Competition Sciences and the New York Life Foundation that challenges grades 6-8 students to solve multistep, grade-specific math problems with real-world situations and engaging characters.
Grades 9-12: Series of 6 contests. Each contest contains 6 short-answer questions to solve in 30 minutes, covering geometry, algebra, trigonometry, and other advanced pre-calculus topics.
