To be eligible for participation in CACFP, a sponsor must be a licensed or approved child care provider or a public or nonprofit private school which provides organized child care programs for school children during off-school hours.
Fruit and Vegetable Components As a reminder, juice may be served to meet the vegetable or fruit requirement at only one meal or snack per day; therefore, smoothies may only be served to meet the vegetable or fruit requirement once per day in the CACFP.
The Special Nutritional Programs (SNP) provide reimbursement for well-balanced, nutritious meals served to individuals enrolled in Child Care Food Programs (CACFP), National School Lunch Program (NSLP), Special Milk Program (SMP), and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).
Under the updated child and adult meal patterns, fruit juice or vegetable juice may only be used to meet the vegetable or fruit requirement at one meal or snack per day.
Children ages 1 through 3 should consume no more than 4 ounces of fruit juice per day. Children ages 4 through 6 should consume no more than 6 ounces of fruit juice per day. Children ages 7 through 18 should consume no more than 8 ounces of fruit juice per day.
Menu Production Records (MPR) are no longer required, effective October 1, 2020. All CACFP Operators must: Maintain a daily, dated menu listing the food items served to meet the CACFP meal patterns requirements. Refer to the CACFP Meal Patterns Charts to determine the component requirements for meals and snacks.
When serving juice in the Child and Adult Care Food Program, it should be 100% full-strength juice and pasteurized. Full-strength juice is part of a healthful diet and helps provide nutrients you body needs in the form of vitamins and minerals.
The CACFP lunch and supper meal patterns requires all five food components to be offered: milk, meat/meat alternates, vegetables, fruits, and grains.
