The Ballast Water Management Plan (BWMP) is the document that details the procedure for the discharge of ballast water and the handling of sediment in ance with regulation D-1 (exchange), and/or regulation D-2 (treatment), and regulation B-5 (sediment management).
The BWM Convention stipulates two standards for discharged ballast water. The D-1 standard covers ballast water exchange while the D-2 standard covers ballast water treatment.
