What is Form 3500A?
Form 3500A is known as the Submission of Exemption Request. It is based on the Internal Revenue Code. It must be completed by both unincorporated and incorporated organizations, even if they are organized on the basis of a nonprofit. They are subject to the income tax or corporation franchise of California till the FT (Franchise Tax Board) makes the organization tax-exempt. If the FT does not give this status, the company remains taxable.
What is Form 3500A for?
Form 3500A is applied for obtaining a tax-exempt status in California. It is possible if the company provides a federal determination letter permitting the exemption under Section 501. The company that does not have this letter is not eligible to file Form 3500A. Those without the letter must complete a standard Form 3500.
When is Form 3500A Due?
Form 3500A does not have any specific deadlines. It must be sent as soon as all necessary documents, including the federal determination letter, are prepared and verified.
Is Form 3500A Accompanied by Other Documents?
Apart from the federal determination letter, you must pay attention to Form 199 that is called the California Exempt Organization Annual Information Return. Other important forms that must be completed are Form 199 N that is known as the Annual Electronic Filing Requirement for Small Tax-Exempt Organizations and Form 109 that is devoted to the California Exempt Organization Business Income Tax Return. What Information do I Include in Form 3500A?
While completing Form 3500A, get ready to provide the following information:
- Organization information: corporation number, name of organization, address, contact information;
- Representative information: name, mailing address, telephone and fax;
- Entity information: type of the entity, date incorporated;
- Group exemption;
- Date.
The document must be signed by the elected officer, authorized representative, the director or trustee.
