01
Assess the situation and ensure that it is safe to approach the injured person.
02
Call emergency services if necessary.
03
Start by checking the person's responsiveness. Gently tap their shoulder and ask if they are okay.
04
If the person is unresponsive, carefully turn them onto their back and open their airway by tilting their head back and lifting their chin.
05
Check for normal breathing. Look, listen, and feel for breaths for about 10 seconds.
06
If the person is not breathing or only gasping for air, begin CPR. Start with chest compressions. Place the heel of one hand on the center of the person's chest, place the other hand on top, and interlock your fingers.
07
Give chest compressions at a rate of about 100-120 compressions per minute. Press down firmly, allowing the chest to fully rise between compressions.
08
After 30 compressions, give two rescue breaths. Pinch the person's nose closed, tilt their head back, cover their mouth with yours, and give two full breaths.
09
Continue with cycles of 30 chest compressions and two rescue breaths until help arrives or the person shows signs of life.
10
If there is severe bleeding, apply direct pressure to the wound with a clean cloth or your gloved hand. If necessary, elevate the injured area above the level of the heart.
11
Stay with the injured person until medical professionals take over.
