Hi my name is Mary Barnaby, and I'm here to introduce you to Girl Scouts of Connecticut, and we're very happy that you're here to begin with I'd like to share with you what makes Girl Scouts of Connecticut's such a special and unique organization it all begins with our history a history we are very proud of girl scouting in Connecticut has roots back to nineteen twelve while this council Girl Scouts of Connecticut was incorporated on October first 2007 when the five existing councils across the state merged into a single unified statewide organization throughout our long history we have had many amazing accomplishments in Girl Scouts girls discover the fun friendship and power of girls together each year we introduced our national program portfolio what we refer to as the girl scout leadership experience to approximately 40000 girls in Connecticut this program is girl led where they learn by doing with adult volunteers acting as role models and champions for their leadership skill building we've also developed incredible signature programs stem science technology engineering and math live healthy lead healthy and our anti-bullying program which we call girls rule these are in addition to iconic girl scout programs such as the cookie program summer camp a wide variety of community activities and so much more in addition over the last decade thousands of Connecticut girls have graduated from high school as Girl Scouts and around 400 Connecticut Girl Scouts have achieved their gold award the highest award in girl scouting Girl Scouts also take part in local government whether by attending advocacy day at the State Capitol or by providing service in their communities this teaches our girls to take action locally and globally to make the world a better place we have many properties across the state including camps and service centers over the past few years we have honored the plans of our five legacy councils and have built or improved several of our buildings, and we recently developed long-range plan for our properties designed to guide us into the future Girl Scouts of Connecticut is governed by a board of directors which is elected each spring we also elect and send national delegates to represent our statewide Council at the National Convention held every three years in 2012 we celebrated our 100th anniversary with a number of incredible events and visibility across the state including a day-long celebration of all things' girl scout and an international jamboree with Girl Scouts and Girl Guides from all around the world as you can see there are lots of great things happening here, and we're so pleased that you're going to be a part of it now that you know a little more about us, I'd like to tell you why Girl Scouts of Connecticut is such a remarkable organization it all begins with the girl scout promise and law on my honor I will try to serve God in my country to help people at all times and to live by the girl scout law I'll do my best to be...
