Color Chart Wheel

What is color chart wheel?

A color chart wheel is a visual tool that displays a range of colors in a circular format. The wheel is typically divided into sections, each representing different hues, shades, or tones. It helps users to identify and select colors for various purposes, such as art projects, graphic design, or interior decorating. By understanding how colors interact and relate to each other on the color wheel, users can make informed choices and create harmonious color schemes.

What are the types of color chart wheel?

There are several types of color chart wheels available, each serving a specific purpose or catering to different color systems. Some common types include:

RGB Color Wheel: This type of color wheel is based on the RGB color model, which uses red, green, and blue as primary colors to create a wide range of colors. It is commonly used in digital design and web development.
CMYK Color Wheel: The CMYK color model is used in printing and represents colors through a combination of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks. The CMYK color wheel is essential for ensuring accurate color reproduction in print projects.
Traditional Color Wheel: Also known as the RYB color wheel, this is the classic color wheel used in traditional art and design. It incorporates red, yellow, and blue as primary colors and is based on the subtractive color mixing theory. It is often used for color mixing and understanding complementary colors.

How to complete color chart wheel

Completing a color chart wheel is a simple process that can be done in a few steps:

01
Start with a blank color chart wheel template or create your own by dividing a circle into sections. The number of sections will depend on the level of detail you want to include in your chart.
02
Decide on the color model or system you want to use for your chart wheel. This could be RGB, CMYK, or any other color model that suits your needs.
03
Assign each section of the wheel to a specific color or shade that corresponds to the chosen color model. Use a color reference guide or color wheel tool to ensure accuracy and consistency.
04
Label each section with the corresponding color name or code to make it easier to identify and navigate the chart.
05
Review and refine your color chart wheel, making any necessary adjustments or additions to ensure it accurately represents the range of colors you want to display.

Putting a color chart to use is simple. Have the subject hold the chart in the scene, under the same illumination to be used for the finished photograph. The chart can also be propped in place or held by an assistant, so long as it's not angled in such a way to create obscuring shadows or reflections on its surface.
