A drum unit is a maintenance item for your Brother printer (or other manufacturer Laser printer) that will sometimes need to be replaced but not as often as a toner cartridge.
The drum unit transfers the toner to the paper. The laser printer puts the toner on the roller called "The photosensitive drum" inside the drum unit, and then prints letters and images by fixing toner to the paper by heat and pressure.
Poor Print Quality If you're printer is churning out low-quality documents, it's likely the case of a damaged printer drum. Unlike blurry prints or black spots, poor print quality is characterized by faded text and images. However, this is another sign that is easily confused with empty ink and toner cartridges.
Most printers use toner cartridges with the drum unit built into the cartridge. If you own an HP laser printer, for example, the drum unit is likely incorporated into the toner. Therefore, there is no need to replace the drum separately. Every time you buy a new toner for that HP printer, you are replacing the drum.
This way, every time you replace the toner cartridge, you are replacing the image drum. The duration that the drum lasts really depends on the printer. Some last 10,000 pages while other last 25,000. To get an idea of how long your drum will last, take a look at the manual for the manufacturer's estimate.
What Is a Printer Drum Kit? ... A personal laser printer is a type of printer that uses a toner cartridge to print. You will need to replace or refill this toner cartridge when it runs out of printing material. Laser printers also contain a drum that you will need to be replace when it stops working properly.
If you want to know their difference, refer to "What is the difference between the toner cartridge and the drum unit?" The Drum LED lights if the drum unit is near the end of its life. Use the drum unit until you have a print quality problem, then replace the drum unit with a new one.
When the Status LED is dimmed (Green), the printer is in SLEEP mode (Power Save mode) or Deep SLEEP Mode (reducing more power consumption than Sleep mode). Pressing the Go button wakes up the printer from Sleep mode to Ready mode. When the LEDs are on or flashing, an error may occur.
The drum unit transfers the toner to the paper. The laser printer puts the toner on the roller called "The photosensitive drum" inside the drum unit, and then prints letters and images by fixing toner to the paper by heat and pressure.
Step 1: Open the front door of the printer. This is the door you open to change the toner or drum. ... Step 2: Press and hold the Go button until ALL the lights come on. They will come on one at a time, and stay on, from the top down. ... Step 3: Release the Go button. ... Step 4: Close the front door of the printer.
