Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Yes. Charter schools are required to comply with the same provisions for transportation as all public schools and receive funding for it as per all public schools. Also, a charter school application must include the means, costs, and plan for providing transportation for students attending the charter school.
Parents are responsible for transportation. School districts and charter schools may, but are not required to, provide transportation. The district may reimburse parents or provide transportation to a bus stop, but only for students enrolled in a receiving school district adjacent to the sending district.
Private schools also often have specific admissions processes, sometimes including testing prior to entry. Bus transportation is generally not provided, though some schools do offer it for an additional cost the private school you're considering will be able to inform you if this is the case.
(b) Students. (1) A student must live in a school district authorized by law to furnish transportation. All Oklahoma school districts shall develop policies and procedures authorizing transportation for extracurricular activities and community involvement purposes as authorized by 70 O.S. § 5-130.
Generally, children must live two miles or more from their assigned school before a school district is required to transport them to and from school. It is a local school board decision on whether to transport children who live less than two miles.
1. If students can't get to school safely and on time, they can't learn. School districts spend a significant percentage of their budget on transportation services, and those costs are rising, taking away from instructional spending. Costs per school bus ride have increased over 75 percent per student since 1980.
Charter schools are exempt from all state board rules and regulations and any local school board rules and regulations applicable to public schools and their officers and employees, except those specifically outlined in an approved charter and in state law, including health and safety, accountability and assessments,
Flexibility. The difference between charter schools and public schools in terms of flexibility is, charter schools are run by a private board and public schools are run by the state board of education. Public schools follow all these laws, as this is how they earn funds to run the schools.
