Open the Word document. Press CTRL+A on your keyboard to select all the text within the document. Right-click, then click Toggle Field Codes. Press CTRL+SHIFT+F9 on your keyboard. This will remove the field codes, replacing them with the text they contained. Save the document.
Open Word, click the "Orb", select "Word Options", go to "Advanced", scroll to the "Show Document Content" section, and uncheck the "Show field codes instead of their values" checkbox.
To toggle between the field code and its resulting value, select the entire field and press Shift + F9. To toggle all the fields in your document, press Alt + F9. So if you open a document and see field codes instead of results, simply press Alt + F9 to toggle them all.
On the File tab, click Options. The rest of the steps are the same for all versions of Word. On the Word Options dialog box, click Advanced in the list on the left. Check the Show field codes instead of their values to display the actual code that is being use to generate the field value.
What Are Field Codes? A field code is smart text once inserted, they can automatically update when needed. There are hundreds of field codes for various purposes, one of the most common being the codes for page numbers and the current date.
option-F9 (also known as alt-F9), or fn-option-F9/fn-alt-F9 toggles fields between "field code view," where you see all the { }, and field results view.
Make a copy of your document before removing the fields. Otherwise, you won't be able to use Magic Citations again. Select the text to process (or select all with Cmd+A on Mac and Ctrl+A on Windows). Press Cmd+6 on Mac or Ctrl+6 on Windows. Save.
Press Alt+F9 to turn off field codes currently on the page. To turn off a field code for a specific field, click on the field and press Shift+F9 instead. Click the Office button and select "Word Options" to turn off field codes by default. Select the "Advanced" tab in the "Word Options" window.
