how to write a research paper for kids episode 5 revising i'm writing a research paper about bats i've made a plan researched my topic written a draft and now i'm ready to revise we revise to make our writing better you can improve your writing by adding changing or removing information the first step in revising is to reread what you have written and think does it make sense did i give enough details and will it be interesting to the reader if you answer no to any of these questions then you know that you need to revise so first i'll reread my writing i'll start with my introduction did you know that bats live in almost every part of the world you may even have some right in your backyard read this paper and you'll find out where bats live what they look like what they eat and the cool things they can do i want to add just one more sentence to my introduction how about bats are very interesting creatures next page appearance bats have fur their fur can be black brown or gray bats can be big or small the smallest bats have a wingspan of six inches and the largest bats can have a wingspan of six feet i think i'll add a picture to this page i can find a photograph online or i can draw and label my own this one looks good next page habitat do you think bats live near you bats can live anywhere as long as it's not too cold they like to rest in dark places like caves i want to add a little bit more about where bats could live because i think they might live other places besides just caves let's see here's another book about bats that i found oh it says bats can also live in tree tops or even in people's attics that's kind of creepy i want to add that to my paper okay next page diet many bats like to eat bugs other bats eat plants as well there are even a few bats who like to eat other small animals i wonder what kinds of small animals bats could eat let's see if i can find out oh here it is frogs birds and mice wow i'll definitely add that okay last section what bats do i bet you already know that bats can fly but did you know that they can fly 10 miles per hour kids can only walk about 2 miles per hour bats also make loud screeching noises to attract other bats and some bats even drink blood you know all of my other headings are just one word maybe this heading should be too how about behavior that makes sense and now for my closing aren't that's cool animals i learned new facts about their appearance habitat diet and the cool things they do i hope that you learn new information about bats too i use the word cool twice let me think of a more interesting word how about remarkable much better now i've revised my writing that's it before you turn in your paper you may need to edit it if so check out my video editing for kids if you're a teacher and you'd like more resources for teaching writing you can find it for free in my teachers pay teacher store by following the link in the description below and don't forget to subscribe thanks for watching you
