The notice of intent to homeschool can be as simple as a letter sharing the name and birthdate of your child and a statement that you will be beginning homeschool on a given date and are officially withdrawing him/her from school.
Parents who wish to home school their children must provide written notice of intent to the school district superintendent. The school district must then respond to the family and provide a copy of the home instruction regulations as well as an individualized home instruction plan (IHIP) form to complete.
New York requires that families file a notice of intention to begin homeschooling. You may begin at any time in the year, although your letter of intent needs to be filed within 14 days of beginning homeschooling or moving into a specific school district in New York.
Your Notice of Intent This letter need not be lengthy, but here are a few simple guidelines: Include your home address and telephone number. Include each child's name, age, and grade level. And finally, close with an invitation to contact you should the principal have any questions or concerns.
