17 Horse Show Tips From a Judge Believe the judge is rooting for you. As judges, we're here to encourage and make it the most enjoyable day you can have. Each class is a new class. Practice like you play. Prepare at home. Read your AQHA rulebook. Make a plan. Know your horse. Remember: You're being watched.
Breeches/jodhpurs: Usually cream, canary, white, corn or beige in colour. Boots: Brown or black jodhpur boots (with jodhpur straps or clips). Gloves: Plain in cream, white, beige, brown, black etc. Jacket: Black or navy for show ponies and tweed for hunter ponies.
A horse show survival kit should include all the little necessities that you might need at a horse show. Important things to include are bobby pins, safety pins, socks, boot pulls, hair ties, barrettes, a razor, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, and a sewing kit. Plus, be sure to bring all the items above on our packing list!
Tack is equipment or accessories equipped on horses and other equines in the course of their use as domesticated animals. This equipment includes such items as saddles, stirrups, bridles, halters, reins, bits, and harnesses.
If you're going to show your horse in halter and showmanship classes, head to the western clothing shop to buy a fitted jacket and matching or contrasting dress pants. Western folks, don't wear gloves in ridden classes. It's a no-no. If you ride English-style, a pair of black gloves is a must!
