hi my name is Rob McCoy of RAM communications and welcome back to telecom 101 in this installment we are going to go back and talk about our fax machines and we're talking to all of you in the audience that still depend on faxing for whatever reason if that's the case then we have a few updated suggestions for you so that you might save some money some time and some aggravation when it comes to faxing so without further ado let's take a look many of our clients still find themselves using fax machines in some cases we have clients working with government agencies freight forwarders medical outfits that need traditional faxing the problem with this is that if you're still using a Potts line or plain old telephone service from the phone company you are faced with ever-increasing costs if your business has as little as five to six pots lines in place you could easily be paying three to four hundred dollars a month inline costs alone but be aware that there are alternatives consider these two options for your business first are your fax is handling inbound documents only if so you should strongly consider an e fax solution e faxing is a hosted solution that requires an internet connection and an email address there are several advantages to an e faxing solution first of all effects completely eliminates a monthly line cost second eFax allows you to distribute faxes directly and privately to specific personnel in your company further if you're using a distribution list you could then send for example purchase orders to an entire department for faster processing the only potential downside to an e fact solution may come in situations where you actually need to send a document to another fax machine in these scenarios outbound faxing requires a dedicated modem for calling in these situations where you need to send an outbound fax convert as many machines to eFax and keep a handful of fax machines for outbound duty for those remaining fax machines in your office you can replace your expensive pots lines by using what's known as an IP fax modem an IP fax modem replaces your traditional pots line by converting an IP signal into an analog signal with this type of modem you can connect directly to an internet port assign an IP address and then connect the modem directly to your fax machine via an rj11 cable an rj11 cable is a regular old fashioned phone line cable here at RAM we enlist our own solution providers to and manage our fax solutions however with a little patience your PBX vendor or your IT specialist can a similar solution for your business fully managed solutions typically run twenty to twenty-five dollars per month even at this rate you can easily save 50 percent or more on each corresponding pots line in the process you'll also receive a reliable solution that also provides you fax reports and a much better email failover system to boot I hope you found this video insightful and worth your while of course if you have any questions or if you...
