ACL Reconstruction Graft Choices The most common choices available are: Patellar tendon autograft. Hamstring autograft. Quadriceps tendon autograft.
Graft Strength Prodromal uses is initially approximately 2.4 times stronger than the ACL it replaces. Ultimately this graft (and all implanted grafts) loses about half its strength so that its ultimate strength, based on animal studies, is estimated to be about 1.2 times stronger than the original ACL.
Common autografts Autograft types commonly used in ACL reconstruction and shown here are hamstring (A) and patellar (B) autograft harvest. Commonly used autografts include patellar, hamstring (semitendinosi and gracilis) and quadriceps tendons.
ACL Reconstruction Graft Choices The most common choices available are: Patellar tendon autograft. Hamstring autograft. Quadriceps tendon autograft.
One of the most common traumatic knee injuries in sports is an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) sprain or tear. After surgery, athletes tend to be very anxious to get back to the sport they love. To help them get back to their sport safely with minimal risk of re-injury, Athletic developed an ACL 3P Program.

Benefits. The bone portion of the graft allows it to incorporate and heal very quickly into the tunnels used for the reconstruction. It is quite strong. Biomechanical studies have shown that it is about 70% stronger than a normal ACL at the time of implantation.
An autograft is a bone or tissue that is transferred from one spot to another on the patient's body. An allograft is a bone or tissue that is transplanted from one person to another. They typically come from a donor, or cadaver bone. The allograft is safe, ready to use and available in large amounts.
Bone-patellar tendon-bone autograft could be recommended as a superior graft to hamstring autograft for ACL reconstruction in patients with generalized joint laxity: 2- and 5-year follow-up study.
Hamstring tendon grafts are one of the most commonly used grafts for ACL reconstruction. The semitendinosus tendon with or without gracilis tendon is harvested, from ipsilateral leg. They are used as quadruple stranded grafts and are comparable to native ACL.
Choosing the Right ACL Graft Which autograft will depend on many factors, but it seems like a patella tendon or quadriceps tendon may be the grafts of choice. If you tore your ACL and are considering ACL reconstruction surgery, consider these factors when deciding which graft may be the most appropriate for you.
Johnson and FM identified the three primary clinical signs and symptoms that lead us to consider an ACL reconstruction as a failure: instability, stiffness, and pain [Figure 1] (6). A deficient postoperative rehabilitation program alone can result in an ACL-graft failure despite a correct primary surgery.
After surgery, the body attempts to develop a network of blood vessels in the new graft. This process, called revascularization, takes about 12 weeks.
