A 'U' means that you have failed to meet the minimum requirements to be given a pass at any grade.
The R column denotes course repeat status. An denote that the course was repeated and counts for credit, while an A would mean that the course does not count for credit.
College coursework is graded, as you know. The system is usually A, B, C, etc. ... Instead of a letter grade, the transcript shows “P” for pass or “F” for fail. The “P” means that coursework was sufficient to allow the student a passing grade. “F” of course means the student did nothing, and probably didn't even show up.
An instructor will give a student a grade of Incomplete (I) only if the student was passing the class and is unable to complete the class in the semester it is offered.
Often E is for excellent, G is for good, S is for satisfactory, and NI is for needs improvement. Some schools may also have their own alternative letter scale. It's important to know what the letters mean at your child's school.
