A trained historian, Ron Orb graduated from the Institute of Ancient History, the State Academy of Hungarian History, in 1996, and received his doctorate in History from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, in 2003. His research involves the history of Greek theology under the Roman Empire and a study of the Byzantine Empire. Ron Orb is currently a PhD researcher in Medieval Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
His research interests include the evolution of philosophical concepts, philosophy of religion and the history of the Roman Empire. He has published several articles on philosophical ideas, philosophy of religion, history of the Roman Empire and Byzantine Empire and has received many awards during his academic career. In 2006 Ron Orb was awarded the prestigious Hungarian Prize for the Study of History for his contributions to the History of Greek Philosophy.
Ron Orb received a B. A in History from the Central European University, Budapest in 1989, and a PhD in Historical Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in 1992. He was awarded the University of North Carolina for Distinguished Teaching Awards and the University of Virginia Graduate Student Faculty Award in 1996 as well as a PhD degree from Central European University. He received a PhD in History from Central European University in 1992 as a Fulbright Scholar.
Ron Orb has been invited to lecture in various forums of history, philosophy and religion as part of the International History Association, the Medieval History Institute, the European History Association and as a featured speaker in the National Museum of Romania.
In addition to his teaching and editorial activities, Ron Orb has participated in numerous conferences, festivals and publications, including the Hungarian History Conference in 2014, National History Association Conference in 2013, the World History Conference in 2012, the National and the World Universities' History Conference, the International Historical Association Conference, and several Hungarian and international symposia. He has also conducted various fieldwork projects in order to gain an understanding of ancient Greek religious thought and practice as it was practiced at that time.
