*GENERAL ELIGIBILITY — In order to be eligible for regular season and MSHSL tournament competition, a student must be fully enrolled as defined by the Minnesota Department of Education and a bona fide member of his or her high school in good standing.
The requirements vary by sports league and division. For example, in some divisions you may not have made money from your sport or been part of a professional club, in other divisions you may. Sports leagues also look at your academic background and the grades you earned in school.
Participation in League-sponsored programs is limited to students in grades 7 through 12. Students in grade 7, 8, and 9 may participate only if they are enrolled in a continuation school for that high school. Elementary students in grades K-6 are not eligible to participate in any League activities.
In Minnesota, the results of a sports physical are valid for three years.
Most teens go to their regular doctor's office to get a sports physical, since your doctor knows you and your health history best. Some get their sports physical at school.
A statewide policy allows seventh- and eighth-grade students at private, parochial and charter schools to participate in public school sports if they live in the district and their school does not offer a high school team.
Students not maintaining a cumulative GPA of a 2.00 will be declared ineligible. An incomplete is considered an F until course work is made up and a grade above an F is posted for the semester grade. Eligibility may be restored at the following semester or through progress reports with teachers.
