Where do you store living trust documents?
Store your living trust document where you keep important papers such as your will or durable power of attorney. A fireproof box in your home or office is fine. If you want to be extra careful, a safe deposit box is a good choice.
Where should original wills be kept?
If you don't want your executor to know what your will says, you can place it in a sealed envelope, and ask that it only be opened upon your death. Your executor should store it in a safe place, such as his or her safe deposit box or personal safe at home.

Are Wills kept on file?
There is generally no requirement that a will be filed or kept in any particular location during the life of the testator. ... Depositing the will in the county court is not the most common way to store a will, but it is an option in many states.
Are copies of wills valid?
A copy of a will is sometimes legal, but generally only after court proceedings establish it to be a true reproduction of the original and under circumstances where the original is lost. ... In the absolute absence of an original will, most state courts have alternate rules for admitting a copy into probate.
What happens if you Cannot find an original will?
If a will is missing because the deceased person intentionally revoked it, an earlier will or the laws on intestate succession would determine who gets the deceased person's estate. ... However, the court will probably require evidence that the decedent properly signed the original.
Where do you store estate planning documents?
Keep your estate planning documents in your desk drawer or on a shelf in your home office. Consider placing them in a fire safe, but make sure your trusted loved ones have the combination. Do not put your estate planning documents in your safe deposit box.

Do lawyers keep original copies of wills?
Having your attorney keep the original copy of your will can be beneficial if you are sure you will be retaining the same attorney or law firm for the remainder of your life. An attorney is obligated to keep a client's will confidential and may charge little or no fee to retain the original document.
Who holds original trust documents?
Grantors (who set up the original trusts) often served as the original trustees, and were the only ones to have possession of the trust document. Documents are often lost when the grantors move or close out a safety deposit box.
