I thought it was a bit difficult to get a form completed. All I wanted was a statement that I paid my neighbor for a dent in his car. I had to hunt for a form that would allow me to enter that statement.

How do you force a resolution?
In the Control Panel app, go to Control Panel\\Appearance and Personalization\\Display\\Screen Resolution and click Advanced Settings. This will open the Display Adapter's settings. The rest of the process will remain unchanged. Click the 'List all modes' button on the Adapter tab, select a resolution, and apply it.

How do I force a resolution in Windows 10?
In Windows 10, go to Settings (Win + I) > System > Display > Scale and layout > Resolution. There is some list of resolution. To find more resolution setting, Scroll down, click on Display adapter Properties. You can see this window (this may vary if your display driver is different).
Can you run 1440p on a 1080p monitor?
It's just your PC is tricking its GPU that the monitor is 1440p, so it outputs 1440p signal to your monitor. Your monitor would then down sample it to 1080p so that it can output image since the maximum real resolution your monitor can output is 1080p.
