How do I notify my contacts of a new phone number?
To begin with the new Change Number feature, go to WhatsApp Settings > Account > Change number. After that, tap the Next button from the top-right corner, enter your old and new phone numbers, tap the Next button again, and then enable to Notify my contacts option.

Will my contacts be notified if I change my WhatsApp number?
When you change your number, WhatsApp will be obliged to inform your contacts. However, it cannot do so if you don't have an active conversation (as explained above) with them. Therefore, it will not send a notification to all your contacts.

When you change your phone number do you lose your contacts?
Note: If you have an Android device running Gingerbread (2.3) OS or earlier, changing your number will cause a factory reset, which sets your device back to the original settings when the phone was new. Apps, messages, accounts set up on the phone, etc. will all be erased.
