What is SMB communication?
In computer networking, Server Message Block (SMB), one version of which was also known as Common Internet File System (CIFS /SFS/), is a network communication protocol for providing shared access to files, printers, and serial ports between nodes on a network.
How does SMB authentication work?
Share-level authentication indicates that access to a share is controlled by a password assigned to that share only. Under both of these security levels, the password is encrypted before it is sent to the server. NTL and the older LAN Manager (LM) encryption are supported by Microsoft SMB Protocol.
Is NFS better than SMB?
For me the NFS connection works two times faster than the SMB connection. Especially if you have to deal with 100 Byte of photos and music files in 1000 directories you will love the speed of NFS. NFS (version 3) will give higher performance and is quite easy to set up.
