A column is a recurring piece or article in a newspaper, magazine or other publication, where a writer expresses their own opinion in few columns allotted to them by the newspaper organization. Columns are written by columnists.

Count the number of columns the ads takes up across the page. The size of a column will vary from paper to paper. Measure the length of the page that the column takes up in inches from top to bottom. Keep your column short. Newspaper columns are typically only 400-800 words, so you should get to your point straightaway.
