How do you write a prorated lease?
Using the number of days in a month Using this method, start with the monthly rent amount and divide it by the number of days in the month. How do you prorate a lease?
To figure it out for the month you need to prorate, take your monthly rental rate and divide it by the number of days in the month. Multiply the daily rental fee by the number of days you owe rent for that month. The total is your prorated rent.
Are landlords required to prorate rent?
There is no law that requires landlords to prorate rent when a tenant moves in or vacates a unit. Often, landlords will prorate tenants' first days or weeks in the unit in order to collect full rent on the first of the following month. Be sure to do so or the landlord may charge you the following month.
What does it mean to have rent prorated?
