Speedy and excellent customer service
I had a trial/billing issue and sent an email to their support email address. Is independence required for attestation?
Attest is an engagement that requires independence. This includes audits, reviews, compilations, attestation and assurance services. Attestation is an engagement where a written report is issued on something other than historical financial statements.
Do you have to be independent to perform a compilation?
The report attached to the financial statement emphasizes that the service is a compilation. While independence is required at the other levels of service, the CPA does not have to be independent of your organization to perform a compilation. The report must state that the accountant is not independent.
Do you have to be independent to perform a review?
Independence in Review Engagements and Audits CPA's must be independent to perform review engagements or audits. There are no exceptions. See the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct for guidance on independence issues. Independence rules are found in section 1.200.
Is an engagement letter required for a compilation?
An engagement letter is still required for preparing financial statements, signed by the accountant and the client's management. If there is to be no compilation engagement, then each page of the financial statement must include language stating no assurance is being provided.
Can a non CPA sign a compilation report?
Only a CPA can prepare an audited financial statement and a reviewed financial statement. However, both CPA's and non-certified accountants, including bookkeepers, can prepare compiled financial statements.
What is a compilation audit?
A compilation refers to a company's financial statements that have been prepared or compiled by an outside accountant. Compilations allow companies without an accountant to have financial statements prepared by an outside professional without the higher cost of reviewed or audited financial statements.
