Does resizing a ring damage it?
Essentially, resizing a ring too far from your ring size can damage the ring. Additionally, the style of ring and ring metal will affect whether it can be resized.
Does resize a ring devalue it?
Resizing down is easier to do and less expensive. When a ring is resized down, the jeweler cuts out the extra material from the bottom and solders the ends back together. But stretching it makes the ring thinner and weakens it. So this can only be done depending on the band.
Does resize a ring weaken it?
Resizing Leaves a Weak Spot When a ring is resized, the place where it was cut and then soldered becomes weaker. It also doesn't help that these cuts are made at the band's bottom part, which is subjected to the most stress when you wear your ring (if the ring is designed to have a top and bottom).
How many times can a ring be resized?
Rings can be resized several ways depending on if they need to be bigger or smaller. Typically, rings can be resized up to two sizes either way. Any more than that and it is too much stress on the rings which could cause them to bend or crack.
How much does it cost to resize a ring?
A jeweler can do the work in as little as two hours, though it may take up to a month if the ring has an intricate setting. A simple resize costs from $20 to $60, depending on the type of metal and region of the country. For a more complex resizing, the cost ranges from $50 to $150.
How does a Jeweler make a ring smaller?
Resizing Your Ring to a Smaller Size Making a ring smaller is a fairly easy process compared to making it larger. When a ring is made smaller, the jeweler usually cuts out a small portion of the band, and joins the pieces back together again. The ring is also given a polish to smoothen its surface.
Can you get a ring resized more than once?
There is No Limit! You can have it Done as many times as you Desire. It really all Depends on your Ring and whether it can Stand up to another Sizing Job. If your Ring is Heavy, Thick, and Durable, then there should be No Problems in taking the Ring up or Down again.
How many times can a ring be sized down?
However, as to every rule, there are exceptions too. I recommend that you seek professional advice and always consult a jeweler (or maybe two, just to be on the safe side) if you really need to resize your ring. The general rule of the thumb is, a ring can be modified up to a maximum of two sizes.
