hello everyone Mike rmle from Excel bytes with today's Excel blog post today we're going to take a look at how to sort your data when it contains photos or images it's really pretty simple in Excel but I'll show you a couple different things you need to know and keep in mind when you're using photos and datas in your data so let's take a look and see how we can do that in Excel so here we have five different lines of data I have four different columns one's called sort that just has a number one through through five second column is letter that just has some random letters my third column has photos and the fourth column has the name of those photos Barrel Barn dock flowers and fish so for example if I wanted to sort this data and make sure that the photos sort along with it I can just sort it as I would any other set of data I can click in any one of the cells I can go up to data and I can go A to Z if I wanted in ascending order Z to A in descending order I can select a sort if I want to have multiple levels of my sort in this case I'm just going to select a to z and that should sort the letter column in alphabetical order I click on that and now a g LM y these are all sorted alphabetically and notice the photos went along with them fish dock flowers barn and Barrel if I want to sort say by the Numbers here I have in descending order order I can click in anywhere in column A again go up to data click on Z to A I now have 54321 and again the photos went along with it my fish flowers doc barn and Barrel and it's that simple when you're sorting your data that contains photos now two things I also want to show you first of all notice that the background of two of the photos has a green cell color or fill and three have yellow I can sort by that too so if I select any one of those cells I go to data and click on sort I can sort by my photos column base it on the cell color and I have my choice of having the yellow or green first I'm going to select green now since I only have two colors I don't have to add a second level but I would if I had three colors to indicate which one I want second I'll just say okay now notice the two greens pop to the top fish and barn and flowers Dock and Barrel are down below the last thing I want to point out is that it's extremely important that you make sure that your image or your photo is well contained within the cell so for example let's say I dock picture was slightly outside notice it's just a little bit above the uh the line of the cell of row number five now if I go to sort this Say by column A a numerical order order I click on data A to Z notice how my dock picture got stuck behind the fish picture and it is not kept in order that is because my photos were not totally contained within the cell I'm going to hit control Z to undo that I'll reenter my picture to make sure that it is within the parameters of the cell now I'll go in and Resort column A in numerical order data A to Z and it all sorted properly...
