How do you measure a cord of wood for a log?
To measure a cord of wood, use a tape measure to find the dimensions of the pile. A full cord and face cord should both be 8 feet long and 4 feet high. Then, use your tape measure to get the depth, or average length of each individual log, which should be 4 feet for a full cord.

The board foot is the most common standard used for saw logs and lumber. A board foot contains 144 cubic inches of sawed lumber or the equivalent of a board 1 inch thick, 12 inches wide and 1 foot long. A second unit of measure is the cord.

Board Foot: Rough sawn lumber is usually sold by the “board foot” (BD. A board foot is equal to a piece of wood 12 inches long x 12 inches wide and 1 inch thick, or 144 cubic inches.
