we are going to take a look at how to add calculations automatic calculations toye form fields we haven't dealt much with calculating to this point so let's go ahead and do that and this is a great form to use to set this up if I scroll down this is an expense reimbursement form and it allows the user to plug in an item add the quantity and cost and here is the total field now within the total field I want it to automatically total whatever they put in quantity and cost and then once they've completed these various items I want it to automatically calculate the total of those now when I do this one I don't have to wait until they have completely filled out the form to do it it will happen automatically so let's set up our first form field here and the calculations we need in order to Total quantity and cost by multiplying it so I'll double click it we're going to add this to the calculate Tab and in the calculate tab for this field there are a few different pieces available now there's a very simple way to do that and we can use this to do it so we're going to choose value is the and notice it says sum now if I want to get the total cost in this field what I need to do is take the quantity here and multiply it by the cost here and that will become my total so what I'm going to do is use this drop-down because it has sum and product these are used so consistently that we can set that up and there is my product of the fields now what I need to do is choose the fields that I want to calculate this is where having nice clean names for your Fields is handy so I want Total One and that's the field I'm in I want that to equal quantity 1 time cost one so I select cost one and I go down to quantity one I'll click okay and that is my calculation that acrobat is going to set up for me so I'm all set now to test this out let's go test it out I'll put a quantity of one and let me set quantity of one there we go as far as the cost I'll put 5 . issue a total of five now if you noticed let me erase this you can see how this is activated every time I modify something so if I put two in and tab over to the other field as soon as I enter something in this field acrobat is able to do the calculation and the reason for that is because this particular method of working with form Fields happens automatically in other words it's consistently updated as content changes I don't have to wait until the user moves out of this field or clicks off of it to get this to work so I'll plug in cost I'll just put one in here as soon as I move out of the cost field you can see how it auto updates that's because I have changed the content in either one of these two that are being calculated and that's a nice easy way to do things for calculations but you can also use this feature if you want to trigger code to change based on some content changing within the field so instead of using an action and running a JavaScript based on clicking or Focus or blur you can think of this one as...
