Sort a table in Word Select anywhere in the table. Select Table Tools Layout > Sort. Choose your sort criteria: Select the column you want to Sort by. To sort on a second column, select Then by and select another column. Select Ascending or Descending. Select OK.
Tables need a title! The title should identify what information is in the table. All columns should be labeled and include the units of measurement at the top.
The term “table” describes any tabulated data. If you have information organized into columns and rows, it should be designated as a table. The term “figure” describes photographs, charts, maps, graphs, drawings, diagrams, or any other non-text material.
Give each table a brief but descriptive title, and capitalize the table title in italic title case. headings: Tables may include a variety of headings depending on the nature and arrangement of the data. All tables should include column headings, including a stub heading (heading for the leftmost, or stub, column).
Tables should be: Labeled with the table number and descriptive title above the table. Labeled with column and/or row labels that describe the data, including units of measurement.
2.2 Figures and Tables All pictures, diagrams and graphs are considered “Figures” and any tabulated data is considered a “Table”, Figures and Tables must be numbered sequentially in the order they appear and have titles, e.g. If a table or figure is included in a document, it must be referred to in the body text.
Captions. In written reports, titles are not used on figures or tables; instead, the information is placed in a caption. Captions for tables are placed above the table (typically left aligned), and captions for figures are placed below the figure.
Text in the stub column should always be left-aligned. Column heading alignment should match the column alignment except that right-aligned columns should have centered headings.
