My life is so much easier with PDF…

What do we call the inscribed value of a stamp?
In philately, the denomination is the “inscribed value of a stamp”. For instance, there might be a 47c stamp to pay a particular postal rate, but there is unlikely to be a 47c coin.
What is a new unused stamp called?
In philately, a mint stamp is one which is in its original state of issue, is unused, has never been mounted and has full gum, if issued with gum. In practice, the term is used within philately to refer to any stamp that appears to be unused, including those without gum, or previously hinged.
What is an unhinged stamp?
Never hinged (NH): A stamp that has never had a hinge applied to it with full original gum and no marks of any kind — sometimes known as an unhinged.
What does Philatelic mean?
That word is reserved for people who collect stamps. The Greek Amelia meant “exemption from payment,” an exemption that was marked by a stamp. So a philatelist is literally a person who “loves stamps.” The world of the philatelist is a strange and tiny one.
Are precanceled stamps valuable?
With few exceptions (mainly rare US stamps such as Scott #596, or #544), the value of a precancel depends first on the town it comes from AND on the style of TYPE. In some cases (bureaus and classics mainly) the specific stamp enters into the evaluation process, but usually the stamp has nothing to do with the value.
How much are precanceled stamps worth?
Typically, precanceled stamps are applied to envelopes at a lower postage price (say, 10 cents) and then you'll pay the difference between the price paid on each piece and total postage due when you enter the mail at a Post Office location.
How do you know if a stamp is valuable?
Judge the centering of the design. Turn the stamp over and look at the gum. Check for a stamp hinge. Look at the neatness of the perforations. Look for a cancellation mark. Evaluate the stamp's coloring. Determine the stamp grade. Leave the stamp on its envelope if it's still attached.
Can used stamps be valuable?
Yes. Used stamps have a value as a collectible even if they can not be used again in mailing letters. Most philatelists assemble a cancelled stamp collection because they are more rewarding to collect that the mint stamps. The value of recycled used stamps increases according to its rarity and beauty.
