YUGO is the Ideal Substrate for Outdoor Maps YUGO® synthetic paper was developed by the Yugo Corporation, the world's leading manufacturer of synthetic paper products. Unlike traditional paper, YUGO is made from polypropylene resin instead of wood pulp.
Long Lasting YUGO synthetic paper is extremely durable and scuff-resistant. Its ultra-smooth finish does not absorb moisture, oil, or stains. When soiled, YUGO maps can be easily wiped clean.
It is static: Paper maps are static representations of features on land at the time when the representations were created. ... Paper maps are limited to specific area based on the scale of the map: Paper maps are representations that are limited on a specific area of the land and not the entire geographical location.
Do not require internet connection to use: Paper maps are printed once on paper, and they can stay there for as long as possible. ... They are the only option in remote areas: Paper maps do not require computers or the internet to access and therefore remain the only available option for use in remote areas.
Many websites exist that distribute digital geospatial data. Digitally created maps are more easily updated than paper maps (change the data and print a new copy). GIS makes it easy to reproduce maps. A single digital map file can be printed at will and multiple times.
GIS allows the creation and use of “one-time” maps (whereas paper maps generally need to be printed and sold by the thousands to recapture the cost of production). For example, a map can be prepared with GIS specifically for a particular public presentation; the map may never be used after that presentation.
Paper maps are easily damaged from exposure to water, poor weather conditions and other physical forces. They tend to focus on smaller geographic areas, so you need more than one map if you're traveling across large regions. It's hard to look at a paper map when you're hurtling down the highway at 65 mph.
It is dynamic: Digital maps are dynamic which means one can choose to view the previous versions of the represented area unlike paper maps. Digital maps can represent all features at the same time: Digital maps can be used to represent all features of a given area at the same time.
Shiny paper, such as gloss or dull-coated stocks have excellent print quality. Unfortunately they are prone to cracking when folded, and hence are better suited to use in book products or maps that don't get folded.
They include positive signs of age such as paper that appears old; evidence of binding; show-through of color; and/or signs of soiling, damage or wear. Signs that a map is a modern reproduction include paper that appears bright white, smooth or hard; and any modern printed labels or annotations in the margins.
