Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
A combined wage claim is a claim based on wages earned in two or more states. The “paying state” is the state against which you file your combined wage claim. You must have base period employment in that state and qualify for unemployment benefits under that state's laws using combined employment and wages.
Another concept we deal with from time to time is a Combined Wage claim. This occurs when a claim for unemployment benefits is filed in one state using the wage credits from two or more other states where base period wages were earned and are than combined in a transfer to give the claimant the most beneficial claim.
If you live in one state and work in another, you file unemployment in the state where you had the job. Most states allow you to file online or by phone. If you lost your job, then moved to another state, the same rule applies.
It is illegal to collect unemployment from two states. However, you may have an option to combine wages from two states that you worked in to earn a higher benefit amount each week. Speak to a representative from the unemployment office for the state in which you live to find out if this is true for your claim.
If you earned $15,000 in your highest paid quarter, you would divide that by 26 to come up with half of your weekly wages: $576.92. That amount is more than the maximum benefit, so you would be eligible to receive $450 each week in benefits.
If you have earned wages in two or more states during the past 18 months, you may be eligible to combine those wages to establish a Combined Wage Claim. You may file a claim by calling 601-855-3133 or 1-888-844-3577. Your claim for benefits will be effective the Sunday of the week the claim is filed.
If you live in one state and work in another, you file unemployment in the state where you had the job. Most states allow you to file online or by phone. If you lost your job, then moved to another state, the same rule applies.
In general, the answer is that workers can collect benefits after suffering multiple layoffs in a fairly short period, but how much and how long one can collect for varies significantly by state and by individual earnings. Once you've used up those 26 payments, you must reapply to get more benefits.
