For pdfFiller’s FAQs

Below is a list of the most common customer questions. If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Open the PDF file in PDF Converter Professional. Left-click on the Digital Signature field. Click “Verify Signature”. Click “Properties”. Click “Verify Identity”.
To verify a certificate, a browser will obtain a sequence of certificates, each one having signed the next certificate in the sequence, connecting the signing CA's root to the server's certificate. This sequence of certificates is called a certification path.
When certificate is self-signed, then issuer and subject field contains the same value. Also, there will be only this one certificate in the certificate path. Self-signed certificate will have identical subject and issuer fields, but a) this is not guaranteed, and b) the inverse is not true.
Typically the “one of more digital signatures” part is done by listing a set of encrypted hashes of the certificate. So when you want to sign a certificate, you would compute the hash of the certificate, encrypt it using your private signing key, and add it to the list of digital signatures.
The primary operational difference between a self-signed certificate and a CA certificate is that with self-signed, a browser will generally give some type of error, warning that the certificate is not issued by a CA. An example of the self-signed certificate error is shown in the screenshot above.
Thus, when a signature is verified by the public key, it decrypts to a hash matching the message. That hash can only be decrypted using the public key if it were encrypted with the private signing key. Public keys are created by the key pair owner. Certificate authorities sign the public key's certificate.
