Questions & answers

Below is a list of the most common customer questions.
If you can’t find an answer to your question, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Production Methods The three primary production systems used by aquaculture operations are pond culture, flow through, and recirculating. Depending on the life stage of the fish when you acquire them, it can take up to two years before your fish attain marketable size regardless of the system you use.
Freshwater aquaculture is carried out either in fish ponds, fish pens, fish cages or, on a limited scale, in rice paddies. Brackishwater aquaculture is done mainly in fish ponds located in coastal areas. Marine culture employs either fish cages or substrates for molluscs and seaweeds such as stakes, ropes, and rafts.
Various aquatic organisms are grown in different ways including: Fish (ponds, polishing ponds, integrated pond systems). Seaweeds and macrophytes (floating/suspended culture, onshore pond/tank culture). Molluscs (bottom, pole, rack, raft, long-line systems also culture based fisheries)
The aquaculture sub-sector also has three major components - brackish-water aquaculture, freshwater aquaculture and mariculture. Despite the long tradition of aquaculture (coastal fish ponds date to the 15th century), aquaculture expanded rapidly and diversified its production only in the 1980s (Rabanal, 1995).
There are four major systems of aquaculture which include traditional pond farming and recirculation systems, inshore-nearshore cage farms, and offshore cage farming/sea farming. Different systems have unique advantages and constraints in meeting the increasing demand for seafood around the globe.
Aquaculture is breeding, raising, and harvesting fish, shellfish, and aquatic plants. Basically, it's farming in water. U.S. aquaculture is an environmentally responsible source of food and commercial products, helps to create healthier habitats, and is used to rebuild stocks of threatened or endangered species.
