It has allowed me to "type" forms that I would have otherwise needed to hand write or type on an old fashioned typewriter (which I still have). I didn't like the way the numeric columns lined up. I didn't see a way to insure that they were all right aligned.

The system worked very nicely overall. I have uploaded several documents now and found it very nice for completing PDF and Pre-made fillable Word documents as well. I only had one minor glitch the first time I used it, but have not seen it repeated in several usages since. Overall I would definitely recommend this if you have to regularly fill and edit forms.

The tick mark will be found at the bottom of the list. This can also be accessed from the "Start" menu under the "Character Map" section (within System Tools).
Press and hold the ALT key and type the character code on the numeric keypad. Remember to add any leading zeroes you need to get to four digits of length. For example: ALT+0252 will insert a checkmark symbol.
Once done, hold ALT and type 0252 to insert a tick mark. There are a selection of different ticks you can insert, here's their character codes: It's worth noting that this will only work if you use a numeric keypad. Sadly, the number bar along the top of a keyboard won't work.
ALT Code Unicode. However, there is an actual Check Mark character and its Alt code is ALT 10003 or alternatively 2713 ALT X . See Alt Codes for Check Marks & Cross (X) Marks. Alt+251 looks like it will get you the check mark/root symbol.
Hold down a to type à á â ä æ ã Ã¥ . ... Hold down c to type ç . Hold down n to type ñ . Note that many letters do not have a popup menu.

Since I don't know what international keyboard you are using, you can choose menu > Edit > Special Characters ... or just press control+command+spacebar. In the left panel of the character viewer, are categories.
Put your cursor where you want the check mark to appear, then click on the Character Info box in the Character Palette. It will paste the check mark into your document. There's a second way to do it: just type option-V, although I'm not in love with the way that check mark looks.
