In order for a sentence to be grammatically correct, the subject and verb must both be singular or plural. In other words, the subject and verb must agree with one another in their tense. If the subject is in plural form, the verb should also be in plur al form (and vice versa).
But that's as far as it goes. It doesn't check for proper sentence structure and it doesn't check context. For example, if you use the wrong there a basic spelling check will show that the word is correct. It won't use context checking to ensure it's the actual correct word usage.

Press the Free Check button. If you see an underlined spelling error, style suggestion, or grammar suggestion in your text, click on them to see more options. Apply corrections where you need them. Then, the system will automatically check grammar usage and spelling and give you the final verdict.
Click the "Tools" menu, then click "Spelling and grammar." Click "Show spelling suggestions" or "Show grammar suggestions" to turn that feature on or off. If you have spelling suggestions turned on, misspelled words and words that Google Docs doesn't know will be underlined in red.
