The Manufacturer's Promise Essentially, an auto warranty is a promise given by the manufacturer or dealer to cover various defects and repairs over an allotted amount of time and/or certain amount of mileage on the car. In general, a basic warranty will last about three years or 36,000 miles.
STANDARD ONE YEAR MANUFACTURER WARRANTY: The manufacturer warrants this product to be free from defects in workmanship and materials, under normal residential use and conditions, for a period of one (1) year for the original invoice date.
Standard Warranties New cars typically come with a standard warranty that covers 36 months/36,000 miles. This means that for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first, repair costs for normal usage are covered.
Limited warranties on new vehicles usually cover the majority of car systems and parts for a few years. Most last up to three years or 36,000 miles, but this really depends on your car model, make, year, etc. Some will last much longer.
Factory Warranty It's meant to cover any defective parts due to poor workmanship or a manufacturer error. The length of your factory warranty is based on years or a certain amount of miles whatever comes first. A factory warranty is generally transferable between owners if it hasn't expired when you sell your car.
The basic, bumper-to-bumper warranty covers virtually everything in the car-including air conditioning, the audio system, and electrical components. It's typically capped at three years and 36,000 miles. Luxury brands like Jaguar and BMW extend the warranty to four years or 50,000 miles.
A new car comes with a basic or limited warranty, which covers everything except body panels, drivetrain components and wear-and-tear items such as brake pads, oil filters and wiper blades. You'll only get a five-year, 60,000-mile warranty dating from when the vehicle was first sold.
The bumper-to-bumper warranty covers repairs to everything on the vehicle except wear items those parts that wear out such as tires, brake pads and windshield wipers. The warranty doesn't pay for routine maintenance such as oil changes and tire rotation.
