Kara was spectacular
Kara was spectacular! I was having trouble merging 35 small PDFs into a single larger document. She walked me through all the steps, and I told her what I had done and where I had run into problems. When she could not find a solution for me that way, she offered to merge all the documents for me!!! I have been working on this family project for the last 12 months and this was the final step before I could get the finished document out to everyone. Why is there an X on my PDF file?
I believe the grey cross tells you that the file is offline. (Somewhere else, not on your computer, and not available right now). Worth trying to copy to your desktop.
Why do PDF have X on it?
PDF/X is a subset of the PDF ISO standard. The purpose of PDF/X is to facilitate graphics exchange, and it therefore has a series of printing-related requirements which do not apply to standard PDF files.
Why is there a GREY X next to my PDF file?
Windows filesystem has a file attribute for offline files. If this attribute is set, the file appears in File Explorer with a grey X icon (in Windows 10 or earlier) or an archive box (in Windows 11).
