The name, brand or trademark under which the pesticide product is sold must appear on the front panel of the label. 40 CFR 156.10(b)(1). The name and percentage by weight of each active ingredient and the total percentage by weight of all other/inert ingredients must be on the front panel of the label.
The pesticide container regulations require pesticide labels to include statements identifying the container as nonrefillable or refillable and providing instructions on how to handle and clean it. Pesticide registrants must ensure that labels have the required information.
The directions for use of a pesticide label describe how the product may legally be used and how the product must not be used. Generally speaking, the necessary information includes: The pest(s) that the product may be used to control. The sites where the product may be used.
The brand or trade name is the name on the front panel of the label that you commonly used to identify the product, such as Roundup or Seven. The signal words Caution, Warning, or Danger indicate the acute toxicity of the product to humans, based on one or more potential routes of exposure.
Pesticide labels contain detailed information on how to use the product correctly and legally. Labels also contain information on potential hazards associated with the product and instructions you should follow in the event of a poisoning or spill.
Labels are legal documents providing directions on how to mix, apply, store, and dispose of a pesticide product. This means using a pesticide in a manner inconsistent with its labeling is a violation of federal law. The label is the manufacturer's main way to give the user information about the product.
There are three signal words in use today: CAUTION, WARNING and DANGER. These three signal words are associated with toxicity categories established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
To test for pesticides, users simply pass a swab over the fruit or vegetable, insert the swab into the detector and wait about 30 seconds. A green light on the face of the device means the pesticide residue is under the EPA tolerance. A red light means the opposite.
