Basic fonts like Arial, Courier New, Calibri, Verdana, and Times New Roman work the best. Most word processing and email programs will default to a professional and easily readable choice. Limit yourself to one font in your cover letter. It's best not to mix several fonts in one document.
The generally accepted font is Times New Roman, size 12, although other fonts such as Arial may be used. When choosing a font, always consider your audience. If you are writing to a conservative company, you may want to use Times New Roman.
Those with small projecting features are known as serifs. Examples include Times New Roman, Grand and Book man Old Style. Fonts that lack these small projecting features are called sans serif (from the French for 'without', but usually pronounced 'sands' by printers). Arial, Helvetica and Verdana are the most common.
Use a plain serif (e.g. Times New Roman) or sans serif (e.g. Arial) font. A serif font is easier to read. Suggested sizes are 12 for the text and 14 for headings. DO NOT change fonts in the course of writing the essay.
Font: Use a traditional font such as Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri. The font size should be between 10 and 12 points, so it's easy to read. Adjusting the font size is a good way to keep your letter to a single page.
Times New Roman is the most common business letter font, according to Purdue Online Writing Lab. A serif font, Times New Roman can easily be read at many sizes and appears professional for printed material. Times New Roman also remains the default font for many word processing programs.
Recommendation letter format Times New Roman font always looks very professional, and the font size should be 11 or 12 point. You should address the recommendation letter directly to the person responsible for the application or to the Human Resources department if you don't have a name (in the case of a company).
Resume fonts & sizes: The most common font to use is Times New Roman, in black and size 12 points. Other serif fonts (with tails) to consider that are easy to read include: Georgie, Bell MT, Gaudy Old Style, Grand.
