State department, non-profit) C: Other Type of Applicant: Rejecting a Specific Project Applicant Type: Faculty Applicant Description: (1) Review for a permanent grant is recommended for projects that provide a strong potential for significant impact to the campus, the state or the nation and for those that meet the criteria for national recognition. Grant proposals should identify the project objectives to be pursued, and the intended impact on the college. The proposal should include an estimate of the duration of the project. For grant proposals submitted in anticipation of the selection process in fall 1996, an outline proposal for review may be submitted. (2) A permanent grant proposal may be considered more easily by institutions that have fewer programs than those that have demonstrated a high level of grant and financial support during the past 10 years. (3) Grant applicants should clearly state the potential cost of the project (excluding student tuition cost). (4) The request for external support is not required. Procedure: The Department of System Administration will complete evaluation in March, followed by a review by the Director of Undergraduate Admissions and the Senior Director of Undergraduate Studies. After review by these officials, the Assistant Director of Undergraduates, who is also a member of the grant committee, will make the final decision about the status of the application and the level of funding requested. A final offer of grant must be made within 1 year after the submission of all documentation submitted. The Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions will assist the University of Maryland's grant committee in the review and selection of recipients. The grant committee will review grant applications that address the same or similar topics as those already being funded and will determine which applications will generate the most funding. Applicants will recommend their applications through the committee. The grant committee will choose up to five projects to receive funding. When possible, the committee will review an applicant's background to provide additional information and support for their proposal. The Department of System Administration will notify the Office of Information Technology Services of any grant awards. All applications must be submitted to the Office of Information Technology Services for review and information on application filing and funding for review in time for publication. Only grants supported by state or federal funds will be published. A formal written solicitation is required by the Director of System Administration. It is suggested that an application be submitted in time for the review committee meeting.
