The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention provided funding to conduct a survey of the child abuse and neglect statistics, and the United Way of New Jersey (UW NJ) provided the survey to public elementary schools. The survey was administered by the New Jersey State Police in cooperation with the State Education Office and the Attorney General's Office of Justice Programs and the New Jersey Criminal Justice System. The University of New Jersey, School of Law and the New Jersey State Psychiatric Institute sponsored the survey administration and analyzed data. Approximately 500 (2000) elementary school teachers completed the survey.
