J.K. responded that these non-U.S. model vehicles do not display these components. NHTSA's Analysis: The standard does not require door locks and door locks that are present in the U.S.-model. (9) FMVSS No. 204 Door Locks and Door Retention Components: The petition stated that the locking mechanism and locks that are present on the non-U.S.-model vehicles have components that “would not prevent the door from being opened for removal or installation of a safety belt or tether in the event of a loss of power” and that the locking system consists of the following components: (A) a push-button for closing and unlocking the door that does not permit a person to operate or unlock the vehicle or prevent a person from exiting; (B) a non-removable, non-moving push button for a door lock that allows a person to operate or unlock the vehicle or prevent a person from exiting; and (C) a non-removable, non-moving, pull-out switch for a power door lock that allows a vehicle operator to operate or unlock the vehicle or prevent a person from exiting a vehicle when there is no electrical power. J.K. responded that the non-U.S. model vehicle did not have the required components.
