The series is intended to help prospective nurses or other professionals explore various career pathways to help them gain critical experience and develop new career skills. Part 1 discusses the career development process and provides background information about the VP NPP. Part 2 provides information concerning the program objectives including assessment, competency assessment, assessment skills and learning outcomes, placement, retention, compensation and other important considerations. Part 3 discusses the actual practice of the program by presenting clinical case study accounts and descriptions of experiences with the program. This series provides an overview of the VP NPP components and focuses on information that may provide specific assistance to participants. The first three components of the Vanderbilt Professional Nursing Practice Program are offered in two-year and three-year track sequences. The first two tracks focus primarily on academic and clinical skills. The third track provides a blended experience that includes all three components. The Vanderbilt Professional Nursing Practice Program is an accredited program offered exclusively by Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and designed for nurses who wish to achieve licensure in the State of Tennessee. The clinical tracks of the VP NPP are: 1. Graduate Nursing Practice 2. Doctor of Nursing Practice 3. Master of Science in Nursing The program is funded by the state of Tennessee. This program may be used as a supplement to other nursing master's degrees offered by other nursing schools or universities. The educational content is in line with the requirements of the Tennessee Board of Nursing. The Tennessee Board of Nursing established the programs with the goal that the graduate of these programs are prepared for licensure in the State of Tennessee. In order to achieve this goal, they have established certain minimum curriculum requirements for doctoral candidates seeking licensure or to advance to the next level in the three-level credential chain (1) nursing, (2) advanced practice nursing and (3) physician assistant program. In some instances, completion of the VP NPP program will qualify a student for licensure in other States and Countries. The VP NPP is not intended for students who desire only to earn a Bachelor's degree in nursing. The program has a student-faculty ratio of 10:1 (3:1 in MSN program) and provides excellent academic support. Students will be required to present their research and professional writings at all academic meetings.
